Event: Olympia Woodard Bay Trail

AVA Sanction#/Distance/Rating: 125570 - 2024 / Y1009 - 10K with 5K, 12K, 15K, and 20K options on the Chehalis Western Trail (all rated 1A), with additional 2K Overlook Trail (Rated 1B) and 5K Woodard Bay Natural Resources Area (rated 1C) options at the north end of the trail.

Description: Choose your distance of 5K-22K and walk the paved Chehalis Western Trail anywhere between the Woodard Bay (north end) and Chambers Lake (south) trailheads, passing farmlands, forests, and edges of neighborhoods. There are two additional wildlife protected options at the north end, where pets are not permitted. These are not friendly to strollers and wheelchairs. The 5K Natural Resources Area, with bark trail, steps, and boardwalk is open year round. The 2K natural surface Overlook Trail is seasonal (closed for heron nesting approximately April through August).

Start/Finish Times: Daily - Dawn to Dusk.

Accessibility/Amenities: Possible for strollers and wheelchairs on the Chehalis Western Trail routes only, not possible on any of the optional extensions. Pets are allowed, on the Chehalis Western Trail parts of the walk ONLY. Pets are not allowed on any of the optional extensions (within the conservation areas). Restrooms are at the start point, 2K into the trail heading north, in the parking lot at Woodard Bay, and at the turn-around at Woodard Bay Natural Area. On the southern route restrooms are located at Kaiser Permanente Olympia Medical Center, South Sound Center, and Chambers Lake Trailhead.

Registration: This event has both an Online Start Box (OSB) and a Physical Start Box (PSB). You may register using either of these, but please complete the walk using the same method used to register to receive proper credit.

To register using the OSB, go to AVA Login and follow the prompts.

To register using the PSB, follow the directions below:

Start/End Location: South Bay Market – 3425 Shincke Road NE, Olympia.

Driving Directions:

From I-5 Northbound: Take Exit 107. Turn RIGHT on Pacific Ave. Get in LEFT lane and turn LEFT at 2nd light onto Lilly Rd. Drive 2.8 miles. Turn LEFT onto South Bay Rd. South Bay Market is on RIGHT at corner of South Bay Rd and Shincke Rd.

From I-5 Southbound: Take Exit 109. Turn RIGHT on Martin Way. Continue driving west on Martin Way for 1.2 miles. Turn RIGHT onto Lilly Rd, and continue driving north on Lilly Rd for 2.5 miles. Turn LEFT onto South Bay Rd. South Bay Market is on Right at corner of South Bay Rd and Shincke Rd. Ask for the walk box at the customer service counter.
