Description: Olympia is located at the southern end of Puget Sound. The Deschutes River estuary was dammed in 1951 to create Capitol Lake. In addition to the basic 5/10k walk along the lovely Olympia waterfronts, add-ons paralleling the bays, Capitol Lake, and the Deschutes River and through Priest Point Park and Garfield Nature Trail offer distance and difficulty for walkers who want to build their strength and endurance while, at the same time, experiencing the scenic beauty of the distant Olympic mountains, old growth forests, our State Capitol - all in one continuous walk. There are very few street crossings.
